Grade 12, Charles E. Shea High School, Pawtucket RI:
Observations:
I make it a point to be visible in the hallways between classes and to greet my students as they walk in the door. As I am chatting to the students I am trying to get a read on their mood while checking to make sure they have their materials and aren't wearing coats, hats, hoods or using ipods/cell phones.
Reflections:
I need to work on developing routines and rituals that include board work that all the students will complete upon entering the room. As of now I am waiting for the bell to ring to begin my lesson as opposed to letting the board work be my opening. I guess that I am looking to strike a balance between formulating questions that are accessible to all the students while being challenging and worth doing.
